Which is the better between E-Max Veneers and Zirconium Crowns? One of the best options for improving your smile’s quality and appearance is to consider dental veneers/crowns. They are effective at restoring the structure and look of your smile as they are tailor-made for you. The two common types to choose from are dental E-Max Veneers and Zirconium crowns.
E-Max Veneers VS Zirconium Crowns
The popular choices for dental veneers/crowns are Zirconium and Emax. Each has its unique features, appearance, and benefits. Let us look at the qualities of both.
E-Max Veneers
Also known as Lithium Silicate, Emax Veneers has distinctive features that make them highly effective at restorative dentistry, used to make full crowns for restoring broken or damaged teeth. TRANSLUCENT in appearance – a quality that gives them the ability to provide a more natural and pretty appearance to your teeth.
Zirconia Crowns
Zirconium Crowns are a type of ceramic material known as zirconium oxide. They are use to make full or partial crowns for restoring a damaged tooth. Zirconium Crowns are manufacture in different shades, giving you many shades to choose from, they are design to give your teeth a natural appearance so that you can feel more confident flashing your smile. Although the shade tends to wear off over time, it is worth noting that this material has unbeatable strength and can last a long time. A porcelain finish is normally combined with Zirconium to make it more durable and aesthetically appealing.
Should you choose an E-Max or Zirconium ?
The choice between these two materials will depend on your preferences and the tooth’s location in your mouth.
In terms of strength, both Emax and Zirconium are durable. However, Zirconium is resistant to wear and tear – highly durable and stronger than Emax. Zirconium is the better option for restoring a darker tooth located underneath because it does not allow a lot of light to shine through. Suitable for patients with metal allergies or who would prefer metal-free restorations.
E-max has a better light transmission and transparency, making it more appealing to those who are conscious of aesthetics. Emax Veneers allow more light to shine through, giving your teeth a more natural look. E-max possesses excellent strength and are fracture-resistant and prepared in thin sections. (>0.3mm) This ensures not only optimal aesthetics but also requires minimal removal of natural tooth structure during preparation. It also provides multiple options for Teeth Restoration – the best thing about the E-max system is that it does not limit to all-ceramic crowns only. Rather, this system can also be use to fabricate veneers, inlays, overlays, and even short-span bridges to replace front teeth.
What is Celtra (Zirconium Reinforced Lithium Silicate Ceramic)?
The product name Celtra stands for a new generation of high-strength dental ceramic and defines a new class of material referred to as ‘zirconium-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic’. The outstanding chemical properties of ZLS provide a unique microstructure, allowing for exquisite beauty, strength and speed. Celtra delivers exceptional performance, including an optimized balance of translucency and opalescence, reduced crystal size which serves to increase strength, and a fine microstructure for processing speed efficiencies. The inclusion of 10% of zirconium oxide ensures particularly high strength.
What is Monoblock (Monolithic Zirconium)?
Mono block (Monolithic Zirconium) is the new generation of crown and bridge porcelain restorations. These crowns are milling from solid blocks of Zirconium and are sintered over 1500 degrees Celsius and are near unbreakable. Designed using state of the art CAD/CAM technology it requires limited preparation design whilst still providing a pleasing result. This is a great choice for posterior restorations as it’s design to have far less chipping and fracture complications than some other finishes. Still, while it’s strong, it has opaque aesthetic properties – making them not as aesthetically pleasing as other finishes available.
As you can see, these materials have many things in common. So we thought it would be helpful to so a question and answer to some of the questions we usually get ask about Emax and Zirconium crowns most.
What material should I use for Anterior Crowns vs Posterior Crowns?
While both materials are suitable for use in both the anterior and posterior areas, depending on your individual requirements, for example, if you have more than one missing tooth or suffer from grinding/bruxism, then we would recommend the most hard-wearing Zirconium finish.
What is the best material for strenght and aesthetics?
If you want a durable and strong as well as satisfying aesthetic, then a Zirconium crown can meet these requirements. E-max crowns are also a great option. It will also depend on your personalized clinical examination findings so we are answering this question from a generalized point of view.
